Pinot Noir,
Van der Kamp Vineyard
Sonoma Mountain, 2005
2005 was an astounding vintage.
Heavy springtime rains leached the soils of salts
and replenished the vines. A long, even growing
season produced beautifully balanced grapes with
elegance and finesse. Upon delivery to the winery,
30% of berries were left uncrushed to add complexity
and spiciness to the wine. A six-day cold soak was
employed before the onset of fermentation. Native
yeast and native malolactic fermentation finished
in barrels, equal proportions of which were new,
once-filled and neutral French oak. The wine was
bottled without fining or filtration in August,
2006.
A ruby color with a bouquet of
spice, earth, gamey notes and red cherry aromas.
A fruit-driven entry opens into a silky-textured,
balanced mid-palate and an extraordinarily long
finish. Very tightly wound at a first pour, the
2005 Van der Kamp Pinot Noir will evolve in the
glass. Give it a good swirl! This Sonoma Mountain
fruit bodes well for long aging. Just 163 cases
produced.
"An ambitious wine, this has
the muscular structure of a grand cru from the northern
Côte du Nuits It grows on rocky, volcanic
soils 1200 feet up Sonoma Mountain, a blend of heritage
clones and 777, fruit Vergari allows to ferment
with native yeast. At first, the wine is mostly
extract, with the scent of the charred edge of roast
beef. Then, as the structure bears down with all
its weight, the fruit begins to push up from beneath.
It brings an opposing force of equal strength and
makes this a dynamic wine to watch as it ages."

Pinot Noir,
Sangiacomo Vineyard
Sonoma Coast, 2005
The grapes come from the Roberts
Road vineyard located in the ridiculously cool Petaluma
Gap, where coast fog is de rigeur. 2005 was an exceptional
year, with tiny clusters of character and verve
and a miniscule yield of less than 1 ton per acre.
The grapes were night harvested and 25% of the harvest
was left as whole berries in the fermenter. After
seven days of cold soaking to extract every bit
of spiciness and color from the skins, fermentation
began with native yeast. Native fermentation and
native malolactic fermentation finished in barrel.
To preserve the character of the vintage, only once-filled
barrels were used. The wine aged on the lees for
just over ten months before being bottled without
fining or filtration in August 2006.
You
say you want an evolution ??? This wine will evolve
in your glass!! David Vergari has once again knocked
the ball out of the park. The Sangiacomo Vineyard
yields less than one ton per acre and what you get
is a fruit driven wine that opens into a silky-
textured, balanced mid-palate and an extraordinarily
long finish. This Pinot Noir is dark ruby in color
with aromas of spice, gamay and red raspberry and
black cherry aromas. The coastal fog of the Petaluma
gap has been kind to these grapes and this selection
will be kind to you!!
A beautiful dark ruby color suggests
the complexity and depth of the 2005 Pinot Noir,
Sangiocomo Vineyard. Spicy aromas mingle with red
raspberry, black cherry and an intriguing hint of
game. Fruit driven, the first sip then leads to
a silky texture and balanced mid-palate, and then
lingers and lingers on the finish. Pull out your
Pinot Noir/Burgundy crystal for this wine, as it
continues to evolve in the glass. Just 162 cases
produced.
Bright, medium ruby robe. A spicy
nose to die for. A wine of great finesse that reveals
itself slowly with many complex layers of Pinot
fruits, spice, herbs, and sassafras. The texture
is all silk and caresses the palate like satin.
I feel a glow just thinking about this wine. Great!

Pinot Noir,
DuNah Vineyard
Russian River Valley, 2004
The DuNahs get what Pinot Noir
farming is about, and the wine truly reflects its
place of origin. In 2004 a heat spike right around
Labor Day weekend brought the grapes to their full
physiological ripeness, and because of the cool
climate at DuNah, this meant beautiful balance at
just 24°brix. After completion of fermentation,
which occured with native years, the wine was gently
pressed and barreled on fine lees into a combination
of new and previously-filled French barrels from
Francois Freres, Mercier, Remond, Sirugue and Cadus.
This is a wine of depth and structure.
A deep maroon color with jewel-like ruby glints
foretells of the character of the wine. Classic
cherry notes on the nose are mirrored as the wine
glides across the palate with a silky texture. Layers
of flavors continue to evolve in the glass, and
the 2004 Pinot Noir, DuNah Vineyard reflects its
special Russian River Valley character with a long
and lingering finish. 206 cases produced.
An absolute classic Russian River
Pinot, Vergari's wine offers bright cherry flavors
and a lovely, lingering caramel finish.

Pinot Noir,
Van der Kamp Vineyard
Sonoma Mountain, 2004
Located on Sonoma Mountain in
Sonoma County at an elevation of 2100 feet, Van
der Kamp vineyard exemplifies the concept that a
wine should reflect its place of origin. This wine
is practically hand-made, with some assistance from
equipment specifically designed for gentle handling.
Harvested in the latter part of September, 2004
the berries were cold soaked for five days before
the onset of a native fermentation. Gently transferred
to a 1/3 each combination of new, once-filled and
neutral French oak barrels, the wine aged on fine
lees for nearly eleven months before being bottled
in August of 2005 without fining or filtration.
104 cases produced.
...an attractive perfume of spiced
cherry-rhubarb pie.
The wine is sleek and refined on the palate with
elegant fruit flavors underpinned with wet leaf
and mushroom notes.
The tannins are supple and the finish is clean and
lively.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, 2004
The first Vergari Cabernet Sauvignon
from Napa comes from a vineyard in the Coombsville
district, to the east of the city of Napa, where
the proximity to the North Bay make for vibrant
acidity and flavors, which in turn lead to a very
ageworthy wine.
Aromas of blueberry pie and spices
with hints of barrel toast and earth lead to rich,
mouth-filling flavors of blueberries, vanillin and
cassis. The soft tannins are augmented by balanced
acidity and complemented by the lengthy finish.
